Book Released


The book "Birds of Maharashtra" was released by president of Dawoodi Bohra in Pune, Abdeali Bhaisaheb Nuruddin, on 8th Nov 2011, 10 Zilhajjatil Haram, 1432h.

Offering an insight into the avifauna of Maharashtra, a unique kind of pictorial, bilingual field guide titled ‘Birds of Maharashtra’ was released on Sunday. The book penned by Satish Pande, Pramod Deshpande and Niranjan Sant was released by president of Dawoodi Bohrai, Pune, Abdeali Bhaisaheb Nuruddin.

The book is dedicated to the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS), on the occasion of his 100th birthday. “It’s a collaborative effort of Ela Foundation; Burhani Foundation, India and ‘H H Dr Syedna Taher Saifuddin Memorial Foundation’. The book portrays over 2000 colour photographs of birds taken in natural habitats, including all the 568 bird species recorded from the State,” said Pande.

The habits, habitats, nests and food of each species along with unique identification feature are listed book. “The list of books on birds in Marathi is compiled for the first time,” Pande added.

Abdeali Bhaisaheb Nuruddin appealed to conserve consciously, the nature and its rich heritage. Chief conservator of forests (Territory) Pune, Nitin Kakodkar, chief conservator of forests (Wildlife) Pune, M K Rao and Zoological Survey of India’s additional director (Retd) Anil Mahabal were also present.
