Introduction

Burhani Foundation [India], is a registered trust, launched in 1991 to commemorate the 80th birthday of His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohamed Burhanuddin Saheb TUS, the spiritual head of the international Dawoodi Bohra Community to promote environmental awareness and research.

In the speech given by the His Holiness during the inaugural function held in Mumbai, he emphasized the need to address the environmental problems in India and around the world in a more structured and scientific way. Holding aloft the best traditions of the community, His Holiness blessed the Burhani Foundation and asked it to work ceaselessly towards the national effort at keeping the environment free from pollution.

The philosophy which motivates and guides the Foundation is based on the core message that the bounties of nature from the Almighty are entrusted to man to enrich his life and these bounties are protected by the environment of the earth and the sky through which filter down the light and energy of the sun and the beauty and grace of the moon and the stars.

The numerous activities undertaken by the Foundation  demonstrates clearly its application of His Holiness' message.

  • To protect the health of the environment by making it every citizen’s responsibility.
  • To spread awareness of the relationship between the environment’s health and the health of humans.

Chairman and Board of Trustees Message

In today's world, it is imperative that we should be in position to respond to fast changing environmental conditions. We have to be quick to recognize that these changes have an impact on the social lives of people in India and around the world in negative terms, hence we need to take the appropriate measures to control the deterioration.

We, the Dawoodi Bohra community of India are very aware of this and under the wise leadership of His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin TUS we are addressing it on a national front, albeit in a limited spectrum, here in India. On the 80th birthday of His Holiness, the community launched a Foundation with the key objectives of preserving nature and making people more environment friendly.

The Foundation is called Burhani Foundation India Ltd. Information and people are valuable corner stones of any such movement thus it was essential that the foundation developed strong communication methods and also, at the same time encouraged people to participate in this campaign. We have undertaken several projects promoting awareness and at each opportunity reach out to promote a consciousness of our environmental goals. We also believe that people have a right to expect a secure and healthy working environment hence it is important to motivate industry to play a positive role in creating such workplaces for other human beings to work in.

The vision that His Holiness has given the Foundation coupled with a good workforce and the right kind of assistance from a receptive public is the perfect platform to move ahead with the reforms we need to create an environment-friendly country. We at the foundation, understand this clearly and are keen to move ahead by providing focussed solutions to our environmental problems. We seek to make available technical advice and provide a data bank of reliable information on environmental issues to work with esteemed organizations in India and abroad. We are sure that any such collaboration with like-minded colleagues throughout the world can only promote a beneficial life for all creation.
