Preamble

As Allah reveals in Al-Quran He created the heavens and the earth, sent down water from the clouds, made rivers in the earth, raised mountains on it, placed barriers between the seas, caused beautiful gardens to grow and made the earth a resting place for man. He guides man in the utter darkness of the land and seas. He sends the wind as heralds of His mercy. He originates the creation and then reproduces it and gives it sustenance from the Heavens and the earth. These are all the Ayaats of Allah. Ayaats of His omnipotence and greatness which , as Al-Quran reveals, man passes by, but ignores them
These bounties of Nature from Allah are entrusted to man as a trust for his upliftment and betterment of other creations. These bounties are shielded and protected by an environment through which filter down the light and energy from the sun, the beauty and grace of the moon and the navigation guidance of the stars and the planets tracing their designated path in the firmament. The Universe as created with its finely tuned, well-measured and rhythmic movement and proportions manifests a Divine Scheme. All these creations - the seven heavens, and the earth and those who are in them - are reciting the praises of their Creator, Allah:
The destruction of nature is destruction of the Ayaat of Allah. Al-Quran proclaims that those who commit excesses on the Ayaat of Allah are oppressing themselves. According to the teachings of Islam, maintenance of the balance of nature and the rhythm of its working are essential for the health of the Universe and particularly the health of the earth which is the home of the mankind. And it is the bounden duty of mankind to preserve and protect this balance in nature so that the intentions of its creator may be fulfilled.
Preservation of the present health and regaining of the lost health are the two prime concerns of the medical science. The health of universe is condition precedent to the health of man and guidance for this is provided by Allah's Prophets who are Atibbaun-Nufoos (Healers of the Souls). It is to this end that Mohammed Rasul Allah (SAW) prescribed Dos' and Don'ts' in the Shariat that lays down the code of conduct for the mankind. The Fatemi Imams (SA), and their Dais guide mankind in order to protect and preserve the present health and restore the lost health. The preservation of health and the regaining of lost health are the two prime concerns of medical science. The health of the Universe-the macrocosm, is a condition precedent to the health of man. Allah and the prophets who are Atibbaun-Nufoos (Healers of Souls) provide guidance for this. It is to this end that Mohammed Rasulullah (SAW) prescribed the Shariat that laid down the code of conduct for mankind. The Fatemi Imams(SA) and their Dais in turn, guide mankind to the same end.
The lust of man has created imbalance in Nature and it threatens to destroy the environment, the protective shield of earth. This destruction in its turn, threatens to destroy life on the planet. The danger thus posed is Universal; but it is of special significance and concern to India, a developing country making rapid strides in industrialization to provide its ever-growing population with a better standard of life. It is a matter of serious concern that its efforts may be set at naught by the ignoring the threat posed by environmental decay and its ensuing problems.

In today's world, it is imperative that we should be in position to respond to fast changing environmental conditions. We have to be quick to recognize that these changes have an impact on the social lives of people in India and around the world in negative terms, hence we need to take the appropriate measures to control the deterioration.

We, the Dawoodi Bohra community of India are very aware of this and under the wise leadership of His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin TUS we are addressing it on a national front, albeit in a limited spectrum, here in India. On the 80th birthday of His Holiness, the community launched a Foundation with the key objectives of preserving nature and making people more environment friendly.

The Foundation is called Burhani Foundation India Ltd. Information and people are valuable corner stones of any such movement thus it was essential that the foundation developed strong communication methods and also, at the same time encouraged people to participate in this campaign. We have undertaken several projects promoting awareness and at each opportunity reach out to promote a consciousness of our environmental goals. We also believe that people have a right to expect a secure and healthy working environment hence it is important to motivate industry to play a positive role in creating such workplaces for other human beings to work in.

The vision that His Holiness has given the Foundation coupled with a good workforce and the right kind of assistance from a receptive public is the perfect platform to move ahead with the reforms we need to create an environment-friendly country. We at the foundation, understand this clearly and are keen to move ahead by providing focussed solutions to our environmental problems. We seek to make available technical advice and provide a data bank of reliable information on environmental issues to work with esteemed organizations in India and abroad. We are sure that any such collaboration with like-minded colleagues throughout the world can only promote a beneficial life for all creation.
